Nobody really has a fear of success. You don’t get up in the morning thinking hmm, let me see how I can make today a crashing failure! #beyourownguru #BYOG
The flip side of what we were talking about yesterday fear of failure is this alleged fear of success.
I have very little patience with this actually, because if you think about your life your whole forward trajectory is to succeed, right?
You don’t get up in the morning thinking hmm, let me see how I can make today a crashing failure! Nobody does.
We want to succeed, we want to succeed at relating, succeed financially, succeed in our careers, we want to be seen to be competent. So where is this fear of success coming from? We want to succeed.
So my theory is this: fear of success is more a fear of success as defined by society. Which is a lot of money, a big house, cars, limelight, and what have you. It’s overt success.
And if your personality cannot handle overt success that is indeed something to be very fearful of.
But if you can define what success means to you, what goals you need to reach, what targets you need to meet that would indicate success to you, I guarantee you will have no fear of it.
Because it is what you want, it’s your heart’s desire.
So if you are hiccuped by this fear of success thing, look at what qualities and quantities you are tagging on to the success you think you should have. Because it’s all a nonsense. You can succeed above your own capabilities in a wood somewhere away from the public eye and have it be as satisfying as, you know, Hollywood.
It’s a question of what feels right for you, what fulfills you. That really is success, where your life has meaning, has purpose and is fulfilled.
If you can find and streamline and define your concept of success, trust me, you will not fear it. You will reach for it, you’ll run after it and you will achieve it.
