Following on from yesterday’s Daily Grain about consciously choosing your tensions and challenges today I want to state a categorical fact, or a categorical truth: things do not take care of themselves. They cannot.
The natural inclination and trajectory of life *is* entropy. If you leave things as they are they will slowly dwindle and diminish and then cease to exist. So that’s what happens when you allow things to take care of themselves.
The wise path is to take care of things, to take an active role in directing your life, to take an active role in directing your experiences and your movements and your path through life. Because if you don’t take care of the details the details will either cause disaster or they will vanish.
So think about this in terms of relationships, in terms of your mental faculties, in terms of your emotions, if you don’t have an eye on them, if you don’t put in the effort, put in the wherewithal to make sure they are as you would like them to be, then they won’t be, right?
Never is there such a truism as: if you don’t use it, you lose it.
So today think about this and think about whether you do take care of things. If there’s something going awry in your life, are you making sure that you are looking after it, or what have you done to look after it?
Sometimes we can, and perhaps should, throw our hands up in the air and say you know, had enough of that, and that is fine, we do need breaks, we can’t be taking care of things all the time, but think about what matters to you and what you need to do to take care of it and that should actually also help you to see what are your priorities in life because you can’t take care of everything, but you must take care of the things that matter.
